doweshowbellyad=0; Natt. (TOI Photo)Anyone who has seen Black Friday, Parineeta, Eklavya and Jab We Met will certainly remember the breathtaking camerawork in these films. The man behind the lens is none other than a former Chennaiite, N Nataraja Subramaniam aka Natty. So, it does come as a a surprise when the man does an about turn and ends up in front of the camera in the recent Tamil release Chakravyuham.
Whats the funda behind the hero fixation?
Changing track... Natty laughs, swinging his characteristic locks, "I did Naalai a year ago where I played a villain. That happened because the actor they signed didn't have dates. So I stepped in for director Udayabhanu Maheshwaran. Now, when he was directing Chakravyuham, he wanted a face with no previous image. So, that's how he signed me up for the film."Chakravyuham stars Daisy Bopanna from Kannada films and Jayasuriya. It's a thriller shot in Chennai and Kolkata. How has the movie been doing so far, we quiz him. "It took some time to pick up because of Kuruvi but I've been to theatres and audiences are welcoming it and clapping for me. They say I look like the guy next door. So I am happy at the response I am getting," shrugs Natty.Juggler par excellence...Natty has some 1000 TV commercials to his credit, including Pepsi with SRK, Cadburys with Big B, Munch with Rani and Toshiba with Vidya Balan. He used to make documentaries and music videos before (the still unreleased) Paanch with Anurag Kashyap and Pradeep Sarkar's Parineeta happened. The cinematographer is already gearing up to shoot Deepika Padukone and Saif Ali in Imtiaz Ali's next untitled venture and Golmaal 2 with Ajay and Kareena. How is he going to juggle acting and camerawork? "After eight months of work I usually take a break. In that time, I will take up exciting scripts and act if I get good offers," is his take. Shuttling between Mumbai and Chennai is no problem for the man whose parents live here.Master of all...Natty wants to try his hand at different genres of cinema. "Black Friday was a critically acclaimed, stark film while Parineeta spanned two decades and Jab We Met, a journey of two souls did not have a particular grammar but captured the mood of the moment. I want to try comedy next," concludes Natty.
